Rathindra Nath Bose, Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, offered prayers on Sunday morning at the centuries-old Bolla Kali Mata Temple in South Dinajpur district, marking what local residents described as a significant and rare visit by a constitutional officeholder to the revered shrine.
During the visit, Mr.Rathindra Nath Bose offered floral tributes to the deity and sought blessings at the temple, which is regarded as one of North Bengal’s prominent and spiritually significant Kali temples.
Accompanying the Speaker were Budhrai Tudu, legislator from Tapan; Bidyut Kumar Roy, legislator from Balurghat; Shubhendu Sarkar, the state president of the BJP OBC Morcha; and Bapi Sarkar, general secretary of the BJP’s South Dinajpur district unit, along with other party leaders and local dignitaries.
Following the prayers, the temple committee formally felicitated Mr. Bose in recognition of his visit. Temple representatives and residents said the occasion carried special significance, noting that it was the first known visit by a Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to the historic and widely revered temple.
“For the people of this region, the Speaker’s arrival at this ancient temple is a matter of pride,” said Shubho Pramanik, a local resident. “Many people were delighted to see such a senior state leader up close.”The visit generated considerable enthusiasm in the area, with residents describing it as a moment of recognition for the temple’s longstanding cultural and religious importance in northern West Bengal.
