Nearly 100 National Health Mission (N.H.M.) workers, identified as second auxiliary nurse midwives (Second ANMs), gathered at Gandheshwari Lodge in Patiram on Monday afternoon to felicitate legislator Budhrai Tudu while renewing long-standing demands for employment protections and equal treatment.

The workers, attached to the state health department, welcomed Mr.Budhrai Tudu with bouquets and ceremonial shawls during an event organized to recognize his presence and seek support for their grievances. Representatives of the group also submitted a memorandum outlining key demands, including equal pay for equal work, permanent employment status, retirement benefits and access to the same facilities and protections granted to government employees.

The workers said that despite serving as an essential pillar of the public health system for years, they continue to be denied the recognition and benefits afforded to permanent staff. They pointed to their contributions during the coronavirus pandemic and across a range of health services, arguing that their role has only underscored the urgency of addressing their concerns.

Mr. Tudu assured attendees that he would give due consideration to their demands and said he would raise the matter with the appropriate authorities, according to participants at the gathering.
