Emergency medical services in Balurghat received a significant boost on Sunday with the launch of two advanced ambulances at Bharat Sevashram Sangha, aimed at improving rapid-response healthcare across the region. The initiative was led by Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former Balurghat legislator and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, with financial support from Petronet LNG Limited.
The ambulances were formally inaugurated in the presence of district officials and local dignitaries, including South Dinajpur District Magistrate Bala Subramanian T. . Dr. Lahiri flagged off the vehicles during a ceremony attended by residents and community representatives.Equipped with ventilators, oxygen support systems and ECG monitors, the ambulances are designed to provide advanced life-saving assistance during transit, improving the chances of timely treatment in medical emergencies.
Residents of Balurghat and surrounding areas have long called for better emergency transportation services, particularly in cases involving highway accidents and sudden critical illness. Organizers said the new vehicles would help ensure faster medical intervention during the crucial “golden hour,” when prompt care can determine survival outcomes.Representatives associated with the project said the initiative was undertaken with a commitment to public welfare and humanitarian service, adding that similar community-focused programs may continue in the future.
