Defying inclement weather, leaders and supporters of the Left Front on Friday marched to the Balurghat Municipality office to submit a deputation outlining seven demands, including road repairs and regular drain maintenance, accusing the civic body of failing to provide adequate public services.
The demonstration, organized by the town unit of the Left Front, drew party workers despite persistent rain and overcast skies throughout the day. Marchers carried their demands to municipal authorities, urging immediate action on what they described as deteriorating civic conditions across the municipality.
Among those present at the deputation were Arnab Chowdhury, the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) candidate in the Assembly elections; Nandalal Hazra, district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist); and Sucheta Biswas, district secretary of the RSP, along with other senior Left Front leaders.
Speaking at the event, Mr.Arnab Chowdhury alleged that the Trinamool Congress-led Balurghat Municipality had grown increasingly negligent in delivering civic services since the party assumed power in the state. He claimed that garbage had accumulated along several municipal roads without proper cleaning efforts and that poor road conditions were causing inconvenience to residents.
Left Front leaders warned that if their demands were not addressed promptly, they would intensify protests in the coming days. The municipality had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
