In an atmosphere marked by music, reflection and cultural expression, Balurghat Women’s College on Wednesday celebrated the birth anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with a daylong program honoring his literary and social legacy.The observance, held on the college campus, brought together students, faculty members and invited guests in a tribute to the “Rebel Poet,” whose writings on equality, resistance and humanism continue to resonate across generations.
The event was attended by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Bidyut Kumar Ray and the college principal, Biman Chakraborty. The program began with a musical welcome featuring Nazrul Geeti, followed by a ceremonial inauguration through the lighting of lamps and a formal welcome of guests.As part of the celebrations, attendees paid floral tribute to portraits of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore, recognizing the enduring influence of two towering figures in Bengali literature and culture.
In their addresses, guests reflected on Nazrul’s literary achievements, his advocacy of social equality and the relevance of his progressive ideals in contemporary society. Students also participated in discussions exploring different aspects of the poet’s life, works and philosophical contributions.
The occasion was further enlivened by performances of Nazrul Geeti and dance presentations by students, creating a vibrant cultural setting that underscored both admiration for the poet and a continuing commitment to preserving his legacy.The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from students across the college, concluding with a collective tribute to the memory and enduring spirit of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
