District authorities on Wednesday stepped up efforts to prevent post-election violence, announcing a series of measures aimed at maintaining public order following the conclusion of voting and counting.
At a press conference held at the district administrative headquarters, the District Magistrate, Balasubramaniam T, said that polling and vote counting had been conducted peacefully across the district. He emphasized that while electoral victories often bring a celebratory atmosphere, such expressions should not disrupt public life or lead to intimidation.
“Celebration must not come at the cost of ordinary citizens,” he said, urging residents to refrain from personal attacks or actions that could incite unrest.The Superintendent of Police, Chinmoy Mittal, said that law enforcement had already arrested 30 individuals in connection with incidents of post-election violence. He warned that authorities would take strict action against those spreading misinformation or rumors.
“Any disturbance, regardless of political affiliation, will be dealt with firmly,” Mr.Chinmoy Mittal said. He added that permission from local police stations would be mandatory for organizing victory processions.Officials also appealed to the public to maintain calm and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure stability in the days following the election.
