A powerful nor’wester, locally known as a Kalbaishakhi storm, swept across vast parts of South Dinajpur on Saturday night, leaving widespread disruption in its wake and crippling normal life.
The storm struck at approximately 8:30 p.m., bringing fierce gusts of wind accompanied by heavy rainfall. Within a short span of time, trees were uprooted and electricity poles were knocked down in multiple areas, causing significant damage to infrastructure.Road connectivity was severely affected as fallen trees blocked major routes, leading to a prolonged halt in vehicular movement. Commuters were left stranded for hours as authorities worked to clear debris and restore traffic flow.
Large swathes of the district remained without electricity at the time of reporting, with repair work underway. Officials have yet to provide a full assessment of the damage, though initial reports suggest extensive impact on both urban and rural areas.Local residents described the storm as sudden and intense, underscoring the growing unpredictability of seasonal weather patterns in the region.
