On the Eve of Voting, Intensive Preparations Underway at Balurghat DCRC

With the first phase of the assembly election 2026 set to begin at dawn, election preparations in West Bengal’s Dakshin Dinajpur district have reached their final and most critical stage. At the Balurghat College Distribution-cum-Reception Centre (DCRC), a steady flow of polling personnel gathered throughout Wednesday to collect equipment and finalize logistical arrangements.


According to district election officials, two DCRC centers have been established to manage polling operations across the district’s six assembly constituencies. The Balurghat College center is overseeing arrangements for Tapan, Kumarganj, Balurghat and Gangarampur constituencies, while Buniyadpur College is handling Kushmandi and Harirampur.The scale of the electoral exercise is considerable. The district has approximately 1.16 million registered voters spread across 1,398 polling booths, including 55 auxiliary booths. To ensure smooth conduct of the vote, nearly 7,500 polling personnel have been deployed.


Security measures have been significantly reinforced. Authorities have stationed 83 companies of central forces across the district, supplemented by around 2,000 state police personnel. Officials emphasized that these deployments are intended to ensure a free, fair and peaceful voting process.From early morning, polling staff at the Balurghat DCRC were seen receiving electronic voting machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units, and other essential materials. After completing formalities, teams departed for their assigned polling stations.


District administrators stated that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place, including webcasting at polling booths, the deployment of micro-observers, and the presence of sector officers to monitor proceedings closely.As the district stands poised for voting day, officials expressed confidence that the elaborate preparations would help ensure an orderly and transparent electoral process.
