The veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty addressed a large campaign rally on Monday in the Dakshin Dinajpur district, drawing significant public attention as he campaigned for BJP candidate Debabrata Majumdar ahead of the upcoming state Assembly  election.

The rally took place at the grounds of Harirampur ASDM High School, where Mr.Mithun Chakraborty arrived by helicopter, landing at a temporary helipad set up nearby. His presence drew sizable crowds, including party workers and local residents who gathered along the roads to welcome him with flags, flowers and slogans.

Waving to supporters, Mr.Mithun Chakraborty urged voters to back the party’s candidate, framing the election as critical for the state’s future. In his speech, he alleged that there were attempts to alter the cultural and social fabric of West Bengal, and called on what he described as “Sanatani” voters to unite in support of the BJP.

“I identify as a Sanatani,” he said, appealing to voters to stand together in what he described as a struggle for identity and survival, and to ensure electoral victory for the party.Speaking separately to journalists, candidate Debabrata Majumdar reiterated confidence in the party’s campaign and expressed optimism about the electoral outcome, though he did not elaborate extensively on policy issues.

The event unfolded under tight security arrangements coordinated by the district police, and officials reported that the program concluded without incident.Local political observers noted that the rally has heightened the intensity of campaigning in the region, as parties increasingly deploy high-profile figures to influence voters in the final stretch before the election .
