A surge of political activity swept through the Tapan Assembly constituency in South Dinajpur district on Saturday, as a Bharatiya Janata Party roadshow drew large crowds despite intense summer heat.
The event, held in support of BJP candidate Budhrai Tudu, was led by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi. Spanning roughly two and a half kilometers, the procession moved from Tapan High School crossing to the local bus stand, with thousands of party workers and supporters lining the route.
The turnout appeared to energize local party leaders, particularly in a constituency where the BJP has not recently organized large standalone rallies. While a joint meeting was previously held in nearby Gangarampur featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah, significant portions of Tapan had seen relatively limited large-scale campaigning until now.
Saturday’s roadshow, therefore, was seen by party officials as a strategic effort to consolidate support across the constituency. Observers noted visible enthusiasm among attendees, even as temperatures remained high.Mr.Budhrai Tudu, who won the Tapan seat in the 2021 Assembly elections, is once again contesting and is said by party sources to be confident about retaining the constituency.
