A public awareness camp focused on women’s empowerment was held on Saturday at the Milan Mandir premises in Hili, under the aegis of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, bringing together community leaders, social workers and security personnel in a shared call for gender equality.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the role of women in societal development and the importance of ensuring their rights and opportunities. Speakers emphasized that empowering women is not merely a social obligation but a foundational step toward building a stronger and more prosperous society.

“Empowerment means enabling women to make their own decisions and become self-reliant,” several speakers noted, highlighting the need for access to education, financial independence and equal participation in all spheres of life.

Despite progress, participants acknowledged that many women continue to face systemic challenges, including discrimination, violence, child marriage and economic insecurity. Addressing these issues, they argued, requires a shift in social attitudes beginning within families and extending across communities.Education and economic independence were repeatedly underscored as the most effective tools for empowerment. “An educated and self-sufficient woman not only transforms her own life but also shapes the future of her family,” one speaker said.

Among those present at the camp were Hanuta Ram, Subarna Biswas, Sujay Haldar and Swapan Sarkar, along with members of the Border Security Force. The gathering also featured remarks from Angan Sarkar, president of the Manabata social service organization; Sucharita Pandey, an active member of Nab Diganta; and Suraj Das of Ujjiban Society, among other dignitaries.

The program was jointly organized by Hili Milan Mandir, Bharat Sevashram Sangha and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Hili BOP. It concluded with a collective appeal to uphold women’s rights, eliminate discrimination and work toward a more equitable society.Speakers echoed a shared sentiment: a nation can truly become strong only when its women are empowered.
