A general observer appointed by the Election Commission of India conducted an on-ground review of polling preparedness in the 39-Balurghat Assembly Constituency on Friday, focusing particularly on booths located in areas predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Tribe communities.
The observer, Ritesh Chauhan, began the visit around 11:00 a.m., inspecting multiple polling stations to evaluate the readiness of electoral infrastructure ahead of voting. The exercise formed part of a broader effort to ensure that all polling locations meet the standards required for a smooth and inclusive electoral process.
During the inspection, the highest priority was given to ensuring that the necessary minimum facilities for voters at the polling stations were properly in place. These include drinking water, proper signage, accessible entry points, and adequate waiting areas, especially critical in rural and remote regions. Officials accompanying the observer briefed him on arrangements made to ensure accessibility and convenience for all voters, including elderly individuals and persons with disabilities.
Mr. Chauhan also engaged directly with voters, polling personnel, and local representatives during the visit. These interactions, officials said, were aimed at gauging public confidence and addressing any concerns related to the conduct of the elections. Voters were encouraged to participate actively and assured of the administration’s commitment to a safe and orderly voting environment.
The visit underscores the Election Commission’s ongoing efforts to maintain close oversight of election preparations at the grassroots level. Authorities indicated that such inspections would continue in the coming days to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to uphold the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
