In a moment that briefly set aside the rhythms of political campaigning, Bidyut Kumar Roy, a prominent lawyer and BJP candidate from the Balurghat assembly constituency, stepped away from election duties on Saturday to donate blood to a 14-year-old thalassemia patient in urgent need.

The patient, Aditya Kol, who is undergoing treatment at Balurghat District Hospital, required immediate transfusion due to complications related to thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder that often necessitates regular blood support. Upon receiving word from a local voluntary organization about the child’s critical condition, Mr.Bidyut Kumar Roy reportedly halted his campaign activities and proceeded directly to the hospital.

Hospital sources confirmed that Mr. Roy, a regular blood donor, provided B-positive blood, matching the patient’s requirement. He also spent time meeting the young patient and offering words of encouragement to the family.Speaking to local reporters, Mr.Bidyut Kumar Roy emphasized the urgency of the situation. “The value of a life comes first,” he said. “Campaigning can wait. For me, the child’s life was the priority.”The gesture has drawn attention across the district, where political activity has intensified in recent weeks. Supporters and observers alike noted that, amid the often-heated atmosphere of electoral politics, the act underscored a quieter, human dimension of public life.

Medical professionals at the hospital reiterated the ongoing need for voluntary blood donation, particularly for patients with chronic conditions like thalassemia, who rely on sustained community support for survival. As election efforts resume, Mr.Bidyut Kumar Roy’s brief detour has left a lasting impression, serving as a reminder that acts of humanity can emerge even in the busiest of public moments.
