Amid the fiery bloom of palash and the gentle stirrings of spring, the open-air stage at Tior Muktamancha came alive on Monday as Srishti Dance Academy hosted a vibrant Basanta Utsav celebration, drawing local dignitaries and culture enthusiasts from across the region.
The festival, organized in Hili Block of Dakshin Dinajpur, unfolded in a riot of color and music, blending tradition with youthful exuberance. The program began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the ushering in of spring and knowledge.
Among the distinguished guests were Anjali Pahan Guriya, Pradhan of the 4 No. Binshira Gram Panchayat; Debashis Laha, retired teacher of Muraripur Sonaulla High School; Biswajit Ghosh, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Hili Police Station; Rathindranath Sarkar, noted social worker; Asit Sarkar of Agnishikha Club; and Suraj Das, secretary of Ujjiban Society.
Guests were welcomed with floral bouquets, sandalwood tilak and the traditional colors of abir by members of the academy, including Shikha Ghosh, Mansi Mahanta and Diya. Mr. Laha delivered the welcome address, commending the academy’s sustained efforts to nurture cultural values among the young.
A highlight of the afternoon was the felicitation of meritorious students who had excelled in the All India Talent Search Examination. Medals and certificates were presented by the invited dignitaries, drawing applause from proud families gathered in the audience.
The cultural segment opened with an inaugural song performed by Sanchita Dutta and Madhurima Basak, accompanied on tabla by Piyus Mali. Poetry recitation by Susmita Das Laha added a contemplative note to the festivities. But it was the ensemble dance performance by the academy’s youngest students — set to the lively strains of “Elo Re Dol…” — that most captivated the crowd.
Guests praised the academy’s director, Tanmoy Barman, for his dedicated mentorship and meticulous preparation of the students. The event was anchored by Paritosh Barman, whose poised compering guided the evening’s proceedings.
In closing remarks, Mr. Barman affirmed that the Basanta Utsav celebration would remain an annual tradition for Srishti Dance Academy — a commitment to keeping the colors of spring, and the spirit of culture, alive in Hili.
