Police launched a security operation at the Balurghat Head Post Office on Monday evening after an anonymous email threatened that a bomb had been planted inside the premises, officials said.

The email warning was received shortly before closing hours, prompting postal authorities to alert the Balurghat Police Station and the office of the Superintendent of Police. Security personnel, including a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs, were deployed to comb the building.

After an extensive search, officials confirmed that no explosive device or suspicious object was found.According to postal authorities, similar threatening emails had been received on Thursday and Friday earlier this week. Investigators have yet to determine the origin of the messages or identify those responsible.

“The repeated emails have created a sense of fear among the staff,” said Kuntal Goswami, Superintendent of Post Offices, in a brief statement.Efforts are underway to trace the sender through cyber forensic analysis. Authorities have increased vigilance in and around the post office as a precautionary measure.No injuries or damage were reported.
