The campus of Balurghat Women’s College came alive with colors, music and spirited participation on Saturday as students and faculty gathered to celebrate the arrival of spring alongside International Women’s Day.
The event, organized by the college’s Women Development Cell, began at 11:30 a.m. in a festive atmosphere that reflected both seasonal joy and a broader message of women’s empowerment. One of the highlights of the celebration was a vibrant morning procession that moved through nearby streets. Students and teachers joined together in the march, carrying the spirit of spring beyond the campus gates and into the surrounding neighborhood.
Back on campus, the program continued with a range of cultural performances. Students presented songs, dance routines and poetry recitations inspired by the beauty of spring and the significance of women’s voices in society. The college grounds were decorated with colorful displays, reinforcing the celebratory mood.A special discussion session was also held as part of the observance of International Women’s Day. Speakers reflected on issues of women’s empowerment, encouraging students to engage more actively with social and cultural questions that shape contemporary life.
“The celebration of the Spring Festival and Women’s Day is a unique tradition of our college,” said Principal Dr. Biman Chakraborty. “It brings joy to our students and helps nurture their cultural and social awareness.”Organizers said the combined celebration was intended not only to mark the changing season but also to highlight the importance of creativity, cultural participation and awareness of gender equality among young students.
The event underscored the role educational institutions can play in blending academic learning with cultural and social engagement, offering students opportunities to develop both intellectually and creatively.
