In response to an acute shortage of blood in the district, the police administration of Dakshin Dinajpur on Friday organized a voluntary blood donation camp in Balurghat, setting what officials described as an important example of civic responsibility and community engagement.
The camp was arranged by the Dakshin Dinajpur District Police at the Balurghat Police Lines, in collaboration with the Dakshin Dinajpur Voluntary Blood Donors Forum. The initiative aimed to help address the growing demand for blood in local hospitals and encourage more residents to participate in voluntary donation drives.
The event was formally inaugurated by the district’s Superintendent of Police, Chinmoy Mittal(IPS). Among those present were Additional Superintendent of Police Kartik Chandra Mondal, the district traffic police officer, senior officials from the police lines, and several police personnel.
Representatives from the medical and civic community also attended the program. These included Sushanta Kundu, general secretary of the Dakshin Dinajpur Voluntary Blood Donors Forum; Dr. Debabrata De of the Balurghat Blood Center; and municipal councillor Konok Das of the Balurghat Municipality.A total of 20 volunteers donated blood during the camp, including two women. Notably, eight of the donors were first-time participants, marking their initial step into voluntary blood donation.
Officials described the initiative as a meaningful effort to confront the district’s blood shortage while fostering greater public awareness about the importance of regular blood donation. The participation of new donors, along with the active involvement of the police administration, was widely seen as a positive signal for future community-driven health initiatives.Authorities expressed hope that the joint effort by the district police and the Dakshin Dinajpur Voluntary Blood Donors Forum would inspire more residents to contribute to lifesaving blood donation programs in the months ahead.
