Ration dealers in Dakshin Dinajpur have appealed to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene in what they describe as a deepening financial crisis affecting fair price shop operators across the state. On Friday, representatives of the All India Fair Price Shop Dealers Federation submitted a deputation to the district administration in Dakshin Dinajpur, urging immediate administrative action to address their concerns. The memorandum was presented at the office of the district magistrate in Balurghat.

Leaders of the federation said that ration dealers play a crucial role in implementing several welfare programs run by both the central and state governments. Despite their role in maintaining the public distribution system, they argue that dealers have long been deprived of adequate financial support.According to the organization, the commission and allowances paid to ration dealers have remained insufficient for years, pushing many operators into severe financial difficulty. Some dealers, they said, are struggling to keep their shops running.

Among the key demands raised by the federation are an increase in dealer commissions, higher allowances, and proper accounting of additional margins and “tied-over allocation” payments linked to the public distribution system. Federation representatives warned that if the government fails to respond to their demands promptly, ration dealers may be compelled to launch a larger statewide protest.

Leaders of the organization said the crisis facing ration dealers is not merely a personal financial issue but could also affect the functioning of the state’s food distribution network. Without timely intervention from the government, they cautioned, the situation could escalate into a broader movement across the state.
