Around 300 former servicemen assembled on Sunday at Manmatha Mancha in Balurghat for the 42nd district conference of the Indian Ex-Servicemen League’s South Dinajpur district unit, an event that highlighted both remembrance and advocacy for veterans’ welfare.

The conference was held at Natyatirtha Manmatha Mancha in the town of Balurghat. Proceedings began in the morning with the hoisting of the flag and floral tributes at a martyrs’ memorial, marking a solemn start to a day-long gathering of former members of the armed forces from across the district.

Organizers said the conference focused on key issues affecting ex-servicemen in the region, including the demand for establishing a dedicated canteen facility in South Dinajpur district and addressing other welfare-related concerns.

Honorary Captain Sanjib Kumar Sarkar, who attended the event, said the 42nd district conference brought together hundreds of veterans and began with the ceremonial flag hoisting in the morning. He noted that the large turnout reflected the continued unity and engagement of ex-servicemen in the district.

Throughout the day, discussions and organizational activities continued at the venue, as participants emphasized the need for improved support systems and facilities for retired military personnel living in the district.
