A Border Security Force (BSF) inspector died by suicide on Tuesday after allegedly shooting himself with his service revolver at a border outpost in South Dinajpur, according to police sources.

The officer has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, an inspector posted with the 29th Battalion of the Border Security Force. The incident took place at the Gopinagar Border Outpost (BOP) under the Jalghar Gram Panchayat area in Dakshin Dinajpur district.

Police said preliminary information indicates that the officer shot himself in the head. The exact reason behind the incident remains unclear, and officials have not yet confirmed any specific cause.

According to initial reports, Sharma had reportedly been experiencing mental distress for some time, though authorities have not provided further details.

The body was brought from the Jalghar BOP to the district hospital in Balurghat for a post-mortem examination. Family members of the deceased officer have been informed.

BSF officials have not issued an official statement regarding the incident so far. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the death.
