In a spirited celebration of inquiry and community, the Prothom Education Foundation, in collaboration with Tilna Primary School, marked National Science Day with a hands-on science fair and a cultural program featuring local mothers, drawing students, parents and villagers into a daylong embrace of experimentation and learning.

The event transformed the school grounds into a lively laboratory, where children demonstrated 16 working science models before classmates, educators and invited guests. The fair’s aim was clear: to dispel fear of science, challenge superstition and nurture a spirit of rational thinking in the community.

Rather than relying on textbooks alone, students invited visitors to test the models themselves. Exhibits included demonstrations with evocative titles such as “The Magic Hand,” “Who Has the Air?” and experiments showing why a potato sinks in water, the properties of inertia, and how air pressure can hold a candle’s flame beneath an inverted glass. Each display encouraged onlookers to observe, question and draw conclusions from direct evidence.

Throughout the day, young presenters explained the scientific principles behind their models with confidence, turning abstract lessons into tangible experiences. Parents and villagers gathered closely around the tables, often expressing surprise as familiar household objects revealed unexpected behaviors under simple experimental conditions.

The program also featured a cultural performance by mothers of the students, underscoring the event’s broader theme: that scientific temper and community life need not stand apart. Organizers said the combination of science and culture was intended to make learning inclusive and celebratory.

The response from the village and the local education community was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees praised the initiative for making science accessible and engaging, particularly in a rural setting where resources can be limited but curiosity runs deep.Encouraged by the turnout and enthusiasm, community members called for similar fairs in the future, hoping to sustain the momentum toward a more scientifically minded generation.
