Balurghat turned into a hub of shuttle smashes and sustained cheers on Friday as the state-Level Senior Men’s and Women’s Badminton Championship concluded with high-voltage finals and the presence of Biplab Mitra. The tournament, organized by the Dakshin Dinajpur District Sports Association, had been underway since Feb. 9, drawing players from across West Bengal and building steadily toward the title clashes. By the final day, anticipation had swelled well beyond the courts, with spectators filling galleries to encourage the athletes.
Matches were held simultaneously at the indoor facilities of Balurghat Town Club and Balurghat Bingsho Shatabdi Club. On the concluding afternoon, both venues witnessed striking scenes: families lining the railings, young trainees watching intently, and supporters erupting with each winning point.
Razor-sharp rallies and relentless retrieving defined the finals. Momentum swung rapidly, and nearly every exchange drew applause, gasps or chants from the stands, giving the event the air of a festival as much as a championship.
Mr.Biplab Mitra’s visit added ceremonial weight to the competition. Speaking briefly with organizers and players, he praised the standard of play and the district’s efforts to nurture sporting talent, officials said.
For local enthusiasts, the championship offered more than medals. It provided a stage where emerging athletes could test themselves under pressure, and where a small town reaffirmed its growing place on the state’s sporting map.
