A police operation in Buniadpur on Friday evening led to the seizure of a large quantity of liquor and the detention of five people, officials said.
Acting on longstanding complaints, officers from Bansihari Police Station carried out a raid in Ward No. 4 of the municipality, in the Rashidpur area, where an outlet allegedly run by Gopal Ghosh had been operating for years.Residents had repeatedly raised concerns that the shop drew crowds after dusk and that many young people were becoming addicted to alcohol. Police sources said the raid was planned in response to those allegations and followed surveillance of activity in the neighborhood.
During the operation, officers confiscated a substantial stock of liquor and took into custody five youths of varying ages. All of them were brought to the police station for further legal procedures.
Authorities said the detainees are expected to be produced on Saturday before the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Court.Local residents described the move as a significant step toward addressing public complaints and curbing the easy availability of alcohol in the area.
