Body Found Hanging in Gurail Area of Tapan, Investigation Underway

The discovery of a man’s body hanging in an open field in the Gurail area of Tapan, in West Bengal’s Dakshin Dinajpur district, triggered shock and concern among local residents on Sunday morning, sources said.


The body was found at Swair Math(open field ), under the jurisdiction of Tapan police station, on Feb. 1, 2026. According to local sources, the deceased was later identified as Dipak Hembram, a resident of Walipara Jamdanga village under the Gofanagar Gram Panchayat. Mr. Hembram was married to Lipi Murmu and had family ties to Dubahar village in the Guraile Gram Panchayat area.

Residents who first noticed the body said the man appeared to be unknown to them at the time, prompting immediate panic. Local people informed the Tapan police station, after which officers arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and initiated legal procedures, including arrangements for a post-mortem examination.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear. Sources said it is not yet known whether the incident was a case of suicide or involved other factors. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.Authorities stated that further details would emerge after the completion of the post-mortem and preliminary inquiry.
