South Dinajpur University on Friday inaugurated its two-day Annual Sports Meet 2026, turning the campus community into a vibrant arena of athletic competition, camaraderie and celebration.

The opening day of the event was held at the Balurghat B.Ed. College ground, where around 100 students participated in eight different sporting events. Winners securing first, second and third positions in each category were felicitated by the university with mementos and certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Beyond student competitions, the Sports Meet featured special events for university faculty members and non-teaching staff. Their active participation alongside students added to the festive spirit and underscored the inclusive nature of the occasion.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday, Feb. 7, with badminton competitions scheduled at the Tridhara Club in Balurghat. Students, faculty members and staff will all take part in the event, which aims to promote harmony, sportsmanship and mutual bonding through sports.

Addressing the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Pranab Ghosh said that the Annual Sports Meet is not merely a series of competitions, but a platform that brings together the entire university community. “Such events strengthen unity, enthusiasm and a sense of belonging among students, teachers and staff,” he noted.

More than a sporting contest, the Annual Sports Meet has emerged as a campus-wide gathering that energizes the academic environment and fosters collective spirit. For many participants, the two-day celebration promises to remain a memorable experience long after the final whistle.
