A four-day cancer awareness and screening program concluded on Saturday in Buniadpur, marking the final leg of a district-wide public health initiative across South Dinajpur.

The program was organized at the initiative of Dr.Sukanta Majumdar, Member of Parliament from Balurghat and Union Minister of State, in collaboration with the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI). On the concluding day, a mobile medical unit from CNCI arrived at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s local party office in the Netaji Nagar area of Buniadpur municipality.

Residents from Buniadpur town as well as surrounding areas turned up in large numbers to undergo basic health check-ups and cancer screening. Medical professionals accompanying the mobile unit conducted preliminary examinations and offered guidance on early detection, symptoms and preventive measures related to cancer.

The awareness drive began on the 28th of the month at the Netaji Sporting Club grounds in Balurghat and continued across different parts of the district over four days. According to organizers, the primary objective of the program was to spread awareness about cancer among the general population of South Dinajpur and to encourage early screening, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas with limited access to specialized healthcare.

Officials associated with the program emphasized that early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes, underscoring the importance of such outreach initiatives at the grassroots level.
