Two Youths Arrested in Theft Case

The Gangarampur Police of Dakshin Dinajpur district have successfully recovered stolen gold worth over ₹1 lakh and arrested two youths in connection with a burglary reported from the Sahapara area under Gangarampur Police Station.The arrested accused have been identified as Sanjit Karmakar (24) and Rakesh Karmakar (25), both residents of the Gangarampur Police Station area. The police have produced them before the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Court, seeking 10 days of police custody for further interrogation.
According to police and family sources, the theft took place last Wednesday evening at the residence of Paban Saha, a businessman and resident of Sahapara in Ward No. 10 of Gangarampur Municipality. At the time of the incident, Paban Saha’s wife, Anita Saha, had gone to a neighboring house, leaving the house unattended. Taking advantage of the situation, miscreants broke into the house and fled with gold ornaments worth over ₹1 lakh, several thousand rupees in cash, and other valuables.Upon discovering the theft, the family members were left devastated and immediately lodged a written complaint at Gangarampur Police Station.

Following the complaint, Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shubhatosh Sarkar formed a special investigation team to crack the case. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police arrested the two accused on Monday and recovered the stolen gold ornaments along with some cash from their possession.On Tuesday, SDPO Shubhatosh Sarkar addressed a press conference, confirming the arrests and recovery. He stated that the accused have been sent to court with a plea for 10 days of police remand and that investigations are ongoing to determine whether more individuals are involved in the crime.
