Police Crack Down on Illegal Cough Syrup

Seized 2,640 bottles of banned cough syrup

In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Kumarganj Police Station seized a large consignment of banned cough syrup and arrested one person on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a four-wheeler near Baganpara in the Kumargram Bus stand area and recovered 2,640 bottles of prohibited cough syrup.
According to police sources, the vehicle was searched during a routine checking operation, leading to the recovery of 22 cartons filled with the banned substance. The driver of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody.
Kumarganj Police Station 
The arrested accused has been identified as Sanjay Pahan, a resident of Badalpur under Bolla Gram Panchayat in Patiram Police Station area. Police suspect that the accused had initially stored the cough syrup at his residence and was transporting it towards Kumarganj for illegal distribution.On Saturday, the accused was produced before the Balurghat District Court, which granted five days of police custody for further interrogation. Investigators are trying to trace the source of the banned cough syrup and determine the intended destination of the consignment.Regarding this matter,South Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Chinmoy Mittal (IPS) said that on Friday, the police of Kumarganj police station conducted a successful operation and seized 2,640 bottles of banned cough syrup. One person has been arrested, and a thorough investigation into the entire incident is underway.
Seized Cough Syrup 
The operation was led by Kumarganj Police Station IC Ramprasad Chakladar, along with other senior officers. The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Kumarganj ,Sribas Biswas, was also present at the spot, and the entire seizure process was video-recorded in his presence to ensure transparency.The abuse and illegal trafficking of cough syrup pose a serious threat to society, especially to the youth. Strict law enforcement and public awareness are essential to curb the spread of substance abuse. Citizens are urged to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities to help build a safer and healthier community.
