In a significant step towards strengthening defence awareness and youth engagement in West Bengal, the Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency today paid a courtesy visit to the Hon’ble Union Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, and placed before him a series of important proposals and initiatives related to the region.
During the meeting, Dr.Sukanta Majumdar formally submitted a request to the Defence Minister for the establishment of a Sainik School in Balurghat, emphasizing the long-standing demand and the immense potential of the region’s youth. The proposal highlighted how a Sainik School would play a pivotal role in nurturing discipline, leadership, and patriotism among students, while also preparing them for careers in the armed forces and other services to the nation.
In addition to the request for the Sainik School,the MP briefed Shri Rajnath Singh in detail about the upcoming flagship awareness programme titled “Know Your Army (Sashakt Sena, Samriddh Bharat)”, scheduled to be held on 21st and 22nd December, 2025, at Balurghat Stadium, which falls within the Balurghat parliamentary constituency. The programme aims to bring the Indian Army closer to the people by showcasing its strength, professionalism, technological capabilities, and rich legacy of valour and sacrifice.

The Defence Minister was officially invited to grace the occasion as a distinguished guest. Dr.Majumdar conveyed that the presence of Shri Rajnath Singh would not only add immense prestige to the event but would also serve as a source of inspiration for thousands of young citizens, students, and aspiring defence personnel from the region.The “Know Your Army” initiative is envisioned as a comprehensive outreach programme that will raise public awareness about the Indian Army’s glorious history, its unwavering commitment to national security, and the sacrifices made by soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. Through exhibitions, interactive sessions, and demonstrations, the event seeks to ignite a sense of patriotism and motivate the youth to consider joining the defence forces in service of the country.
Expressing confidence in the transformative impact of the programme, the MP noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering a strong connection between the armed forces and civilians, while reinforcing the vision of a strong army and a prosperous India (Sashakt Sena, Samriddh Bharat).The meeting was marked by constructive discussions,and Dr.Majumdar expressed optimism that the proposals placed before the Defence Minister would receive due consideration in the interest of national development and youth empowerment.
