Brother Slain in Brutal Land Feud: Family Dispute Turns Deadly in Tapan

In a shocking incident stemming from a long-running family land dispute, a man was brutally murdered by his own brother’s family on Friday morning at Tapan police station area in South Dinajpur. The deceased has been identified as Karim Sarkar (40). The incident took place around 10 a.m. at Soralbati Nalipara village, sending shockwaves through the locality.According to police and local sources, the dispute involved two real brothers, Azgar Miyan and Akbar Miyan, residents of the same village. About six months ago, a land exchange agreement was reached between the brothers through the mediation of a relative by marriage. As per the agreement, Akbar was to hand over 80 decimals of land to Azgar, while Azgar would give Akbar 80 decimals of land he was cultivating.However, tensions escalated when Akbar allegedly failed to transfer his share of land to his brother and instead registered it in the names of his sons. He is also accused of unlawfully withholding an additional five decimals of land belonging to Azgar. The dispute over possession of this land had been simmering for several days.

On Friday morning, both parties arrived at the disputed land, where a heated argument quickly spiraled into violence. During the clash, Akbar’s son, Abdul Faruk Miyan, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Azgar’s elder son, Karim, in the neck. Karim collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely.He was rushed to Gangarampur Super Specialty Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.News of the gruesome daylight murder spread rapidly, creating panic and tension in the area. A large contingent of police from Tapan Police Station rushed to the scene. Following the incident, all accused persons have reportedly gone into hiding.Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are conducting raids to arrest those involved. The incident has once again highlighted how bitter land disputes within families can erupt into deadly violence.
