A political crisis has erupted in Balurghat Municipality after 14 councillors of the ruling party submitted a written complaint expressing no confidence against the municipal chairman, Ashok Kumar Mitra. Hence, Balurghat Municipality consists of 25 wards, of which 23 councillors belong to the Trinamool Congress and two are from the Left. Of the 23 TMC councillors, 14 have now come together to oppose the chairman, indicating a clear internal rift within the ruling party.Reacting to the issue, district Trinamool Congress president Subhash Bhawal said he was unaware of the matter as he had been outside for medical treatment.
