MP Sports Festival 2025 to Nurture Young Minds

Balurghat a prominent town of South Dinajpur district, is set to witness a landmark moment in its sporting history with the upcoming “MP Sports Festival 2025”, initiated by Balurghat’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar. As part of this grand sports festival, a large-scale Under-17 Boys’ and Girls’ Chess Tournament will be held on 22nd and 23rd December 2025, marking the biggest chess event ever organized in the region.
The tournament will take place at the Balurghat Town Club Ground and Balurghat Indoor Stadium, starting daily from 10:00 AM onwards. For a marginal town like Balurghat, the organization of such a high-profile chess competition is being seen as a significant step towards decentralizing sports and nurturing talent beyond metropolitan areas.
What makes this initiative especially noteworthy is its long-term vision. According to sources, the most promising performers from the tournament will receive professional grooming and advanced training, enabling them to compete at national and international levels in the future. This initiative is expected to open new horizons for young chess players from South Dinajpur and neighboring regions.The event will be graced by several eminent personalities, including Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency and Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India.
