A Marathon race was organised by Dakshin Dinajpur District Police on Sunday at Balurghat where more than 1500 male & female participants took part under the banner 'Run for Awareness' with a view to promote 'Safe Drive Save life' campaign.The race was flagged off by DIG of Police (Malda and Raiganj Range) Prasun Banerjee(IPS), District Magistrate Bijin Krishna(IAS) and Superintendent of Police Chinmay Mittal(IPS). Many eminent personalities were also present there.
District Magistrate Bijin Krishna said,
"We hope that the 10 km run has helped every participant to explore their inner talent.This marathon running competition is organized to make the youth interested in sports and keep their body strong and healthy."
Superintendent of Police Chinmay Mittal said, "I am very happy to see that people appreciated the initiative.This year highest number of contestants participated in the competition. It was organised to make people aware about safe driving and saving lives. We arranged bike patrolling for each categories of Marathon, carrying water for the participants.'
Additional Superintendent of Police(Hq) Md. Nasim said "In today's competition, Ramjan Ali became the first in the men's category, similarly, Balaram Mondal became second and Raj Kundu became third. On the other side in the female category Shyamali Singh became first as well as Sima Nayek became second and Puja Pramanik became third."
