International Literacy Day Celebration

International Literacy Day was celebrated on Friday at Baluchhaya Auditorium Hall, adjacent to the district administration building at Balurghat in collaboration with the state mass education extension and library services department & the district administration.The programme was inaugurated by Sabhadhipati of Dakshin Dinajpur Zilla Parishad, Chintamani Biha & Additional District Magistrate (Development), Abul Kalam Azad Islam. OC Education, Arindam Dasgupta, Deputy Magistrate Madan mandal, Govinda Dutta, District Mass Education Extension Officer, Tanumay Sarkar, District Inspector of Schools (SE), Mrinmoy Ghosh, District Inspector of Schools (PE), Suny Misra, District Library Officer, Anup Kumar Mandal along with other officials of the district administration and several eminent personalities of the district were also present in the programme. On this occasion of the celebration of International Literacy Day, various cultural programs were organized by the administration.


In this regard,District Mass Education Extension Officer Tanumay Sarkar said, 'Special initiatives have been taken to reduce the number of drop out students across the district. In the time of COVID-19, the number of school dropout student in the district was around 1000. Currently that number has reduced to 300.After Corona, the number of drop out student in this district has decreased a lot.  A tableau was inaugurated today to raise awareness about literacy across the district.' In the context of literacy, he lays special emphasis on functional literacy refers to the ability to read, write, and comprehend information in a way that allows an individual to function effectively in their daily life.
