Public Library Day Celebration

Along with the entire state, with great enthusiasm 'Public Library Day' was also celebrated across Dakshin Dinajpur District on Thursday with the aim to promote the use of libraries.  However, the main program of the district level was held at Baluchhaya Bhavan, adjacent to the district administration building at Balurghat. As a part of the celebration, a brief function was organized here.



The programme was inaugurated by District Magistrate Bijin Krishna(IAS) & Chintamani Biha, sabhadhipati  of Dakshin Dinajpur zilla parishad, the chief guest of the day.  Additional District Magistrate (LR),Dr. Haaris Rasheed (IAS), Additional District Magistrate Development, Abul Kalam Azad Islam, Sub-Divisional officer (Balurghat Sadar), Suman Dasgupta along with other officials of the district administration and several eminent personalities of the district were also present in the programme. The objective of the program was to create awareness and educate the library users on effective use of Libraries.


As a part of the celebrations, prizes of sit & draw competition and extempore speech competitions were distributed to the participants.In this regard, District Magistrate Brijin Krishna said, 'It is very difficult to maintain the habit of reading books nowadays. Considering that matter seriously, there is a great need of modernizing the libraries at present.  In addition to reading books, emphasis should also be placed on providing information to readers through audio-visual media from libraries. As a result, more readers will turn to the library.'





The district librarian said in this regard
' the number of government sponsored libraries in Dakshin Dinajpur District is 57.  Meanwhile, the process of computerized database creation is going on in 19 libraries including district library.  A database of 48000 books has already been created in the district library. Now, Online readers can easily read those books.'
