Saplings were distributed from the Gangarampur Block Development Officer's office on Tuesday. Teachers from various educational institutions under Gangarampur block came to the block premises and collected saplings.
These saplings are meant to strengthen the kitchen garden of these institutions.
It should be noted that the Horticulture Week is being observed by the Department of Food Processing and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal. During the Horticulture Week celebration, various awareness programmes have already been conducted in association with the officials of line departments.
Dr. Aloke Bar, Subdivision Horticulture Officer(Gangarampur) of horticulture department, said: “near bout 17,000 saplings will be distributed at Gangarampur sub-divisional level.We have held talks with the district education department to provide saplings to the schools and Anganwadi centres. The saplings to be distributed including, lemons,guava,mango, papaya and many more.'
Beauty Sarkar,the Sabhapati of Gangarampur Panchayat Samiti said, 'Sabeda, lemon, papaya, guava plants have been distributed among the school teachers. All the school representatives who attended today have been given saplings.'
