West Bengal Prepares for First Phase of Assembly Polls as Over 36 Million Electors Listed

With the first phase of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, state election authorities have released detailed voter data, underscoring the vast scale and administrative complexity of the democratic exercise.According to a press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, more than 36 million(36077171) voters are registered across 152 Assembly constituencies participating in Phase 1. The data reflects a continued emphasis on transparency and inclusivity, with elector figures categorized by gender, including male, female, and third gender voters.

Murshidabad district accounts for the largest share of voters, with over five million(5026213)electors, followed by Paschim Medinipur and Purbo Medinipur, each reporting more than three million registered voters. In contrast, districts such as Jhargram and Darjeeling have comparatively smaller electorates, reflecting regional demographic variations.In first phase total voters number is 36077171; male voters number approximately 18.49 million(18499496), while female voters total about 17.57 million(17577210). A smaller but notable figure of 465 voters is registered under the third gender category, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure broader electoral representation.

Election officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of impartiality, safety, and security throughout the polling process.
