A bomb threat triggered widespread panic and brought operations to a halt at the Balurghat Head Post Office on Monday, as police and bomb disposal teams launched an extensive search of the premises following a threatening email.
According to postal authorities, the message warned that RDX explosives had been planted inside the passport service center within the post office and claimed that a detonation would occur at noon using dynamite. The alarming communication was reportedly forwarded from the postal department’s circle office, prompting immediate precautionary measures.
Law enforcement officials quickly evacuated the building and secured the surrounding area. Bomb squad personnel, accompanied by sniffer dogs, conducted a meticulous sweep of the facility. Authorities also used public address systems to disperse onlookers who had gathered nearby as news of the threat spread.
Postal services were suspended during the operation, causing inconvenience to customers who had arrived for routine work. Officials emphasized that public safety remained the top priority. This incident closely mirrors a similar threat received in February, which was later determined to be a hoax. As of now, authorities have not confirmed whether any explosives have been found, and the investigation is ongoing.Police are working to trace the origin of the email and assess its credibility, even as heightened vigilance continues in the area.
