Volleyball Championship Trophy Unveiled in Balurghat Ahead of Two-Day Tournament

In a move aimed at invigorating the sporting culture of South Dinajpur district, officials on Friday unveiled the trophies for the upcoming District Volleyball Championship at Balurghat Stadium’s Bikash Maidan during a formal event held at 5 p.m.

The ceremony brought together key office-bearers of the district sports association along with members of the local sporting community. Addressing the media, officials discussed the current state of sports in the district and outlined their ongoing efforts toward broader athletic development.

Among those present were Sujoy Ghosh, Secretary of the Dakshin Dinajpur District Sports Association, and Arindam Ghosh, Secretary of the Volleyball Division, alongside other functionaries.Organized by the district sports association in collaboration with the Karadaha Bichitra Club, the two-day day-night volleyball championship is scheduled to begin on March 28 at 10 a.m. and will continue through March 29.

On the occasion, the Champions Trophy was unveiled in memory of the late Deviprasad Bagchi and Bijli Bhowmik, while the Runners-Up Trophy was dedicated to the memory of the late Ratan Kumar Sarkar.According to organizers, the tournament will feature 12 teams in the men’s category and 6 teams in the women’s category. Officials noted that hosting such events beyond major urban centers plays a significant role in raising the overall standard of sports in the district.
