Political activity is intensifying in the Kumarganj Assembly constituency of South Dinajpur district, where competing parties are stepping up their campaigns ahead of the upcoming elections. In a region marked by a significant minority population, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is placing renewed emphasis on outreach through its minority leadership.
In an exclusive interaction with our correspondent, leaders of the BJP’s Minority Morcha expressed strong confidence about their electoral prospects. They argued that the electorate is seeking change after years of persistent local challenges. “The people of Kumarganj are ready for transformation,” the leaders said, adding that development-focused governance has become a key demand among residents.
The Minority Morcha leadership played a prominent role in articulating the party’s message, emphasizing that their campaign is rooted in inclusivity rather than religious divisions. “We do not practice politics based on religion. Development remains our only objective, and people from all communities are supporting us,” said the Minority Morcha president during the discussion.
They outlined priorities such as improving education, healthcare, and transportation infrastructure, while also addressing concerns around unemployment, agricultural distress, and inadequate local facilities. The leaders assured that, if elected, swift measures would be taken to tackle these issues.
Earlier in the day, a workers’ conference organized by the BJP Minority Morcha in Gopalganj, within the Kumarganj constituency, drew a notable turnout. A significant number of minority Muslim participants attended the event, with the presence of Muslim women particularly standing out. The gathering was led by district-level Minority Morcha leaders, who reiterated the party’s message of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” underscoring a commitment to inclusive development.
Political observers suggest that such visible participation by minority leaders and community members could help reshape perceptions in a constituency where the BJP has often been labeled as unfavorable to minorities. The active involvement of the Minority Morcha leadership is being seen as a strategic effort to broaden the party’s appeal.
As the campaign gains momentum, Kumarganj is emerging as a closely watched battleground. The effectiveness of this minority outreach, led from within the community itself, may prove decisive when voters head to the polls.
