In a development that has stirred political discussion ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, Swarup Chowdhury resigned from his position as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s district president in South Dinajpur on Friday.

Mr.Swarup Chowdhury announced his resignation during a press conference held at the party’s district office in Balurghat earlier in the day. Speaking briefly to reporters, he confirmed that he had decided to step down from the post but declined to elaborate on the reasons behind his decision.

Despite repeated questions from journalists, Mr.Swarup  Chowdhury refrained from offering any detailed explanation on camera. Following the press conference, he formally submitted his resignation letter at the district party office and left the premises.

The sudden move has prompted speculation within political circles. According to party insiders and local political observers, the resignation may be linked to uncertainty surrounding candidate selection for the forthcoming assembly elections. Some sources suggest that the possibility of not being nominated as a candidate could have influenced his decision.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leadership has not yet issued an official statement regarding the resignation or the circumstances surrounding it.Mr. Chowdhury’s departure from the post of district president, just months before the assembly polls, has created unease within the party’s South Dinajpur unit. Political observers say attention will now turn to how the party leadership responds and who may be appointed to fill the leadership vacuum in the district.
