A three-day workshop on soft skill development conducted at Balurghat B.Ed. College (Autonomous) on Wednesday , bringing together students, educators and career experts to emphasize the importance of personal and professional readiness in an increasingly competitive environment.

The program, organized by IISD Education in collaboration with the Ujjiban Society, ran from Feb. 11 to Feb. 13, with sessions beginning each day at 12:30 p.m. The initiative sought to help students translate academic learning into practical abilities required in real-world settings.

Participants received training in communication, confidence building, leadership qualities, time management and career preparation. Organizers said the workshop was designed to complement formal education with skills that employers increasingly value.

IISD Education, which conducts academic courses, competitive exam preparation, doubt-clearing sessions, mock tests, library access, e-learning resources and career counseling, described the event as part of its broader effort to support students’ holistic development.

The lead resource person, Prasenjit Modak, a certified career counselor, spoke at length about the critical role soft skills play in shaping professional futures. Drawing on practical experience, he offered guidance on how students could better position themselves for emerging opportunities.

Among those present were Suraj Das, secretary of the Ujjiban Society; Boby Mohanta, principal of Balurghat B.Ed. College; Haripada Saha; and Dr. Ashis Das, along with other invited guests. In their remarks, speakers noted that book knowledge alone is no longer sufficient and that soft skills often determine a student’s success.

Students responded with enthusiasm, describing the workshop as timely, relevant and highly beneficial. Organizers expressed hope that similar programs would continue to strengthen career readiness among young learners in the district.
