Marking the festival of Shivratri, the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University opened a two-day spiritual gathering here with a colorful procession intended to spread a message of inner awakening and collective harmony.

The event began with participants carrying an image of Shiva Baba, as members of the organization — often referred to as brothers and sisters in the movement — walked through prominent neighborhoods of the town. Along the route, they shared reflections on peace, purity and the possibility of spiritual renewal in daily life.

Organizers said the festival is designed not only as a ritual observance, but also as an opportunity for residents to experience practices associated with Rajyoga meditation. Throughout the two days, attendees are invited to take part in guided meditation sessions, tributes to Shiva Baba and discussions focused on cultivating calm and moral clarity amid the pressures of modern living.

For decades, the Brahma Kumaris have promoted meditation and values-based education in communities across India and abroad. Local coordinators described the Shivratri program as an extension of that mission — a moment, they said, to encourage self-transformation while strengthening social bonds.

Residents lining the streets watched the procession pass with folded hands, some joining briefly before returning to their routines. By evening, the gathering had settled into quieter sessions of contemplation, with teachers urging participants to carry the experience beyond the festival.

Organizers expressed hope that the two-day program would leave a lasting imprint on the town, deepening a sense of spiritual awareness and shared responsibility long after the lamps of Shivratri are extinguished.
