Just days before worshipers are expected to gather for Shivratri, a new Entry gate at the well-known Narbaria Shiva Temple was formally opened on Saturday by Sukanta Majumdar, the Union minister of state and member of Parliament from Balurghat.
The structure, built with funds from the parliamentary development allocation, rises at the entrance to a shrine that draws devotees from across the region, especially during the annual festival dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Temple authorities had requested assistance for the project, Mr. Majumdar said after the inauguration, adding that the new gateway was completed in response to that appeal. The opening comes at a time when preparations are underway for an expected surge of pilgrims.
Residents and devotees who gathered for the ceremony said the addition would improve access and lend a sense of renewed prominence to the temple complex.
For local officials, the moment carried both religious and civic meaning: an investment in infrastructure timed to meet the rhythms of faith, as the community readies itself for one of the most important dates on its ritual calendar.
