On a crisp Sunday morning, the streets of Gangarampur turned into a lively course of endurance and enthusiasm as more than 500 runners participated in a marathon organized by the Gangarampur Municipality, underscoring a growing push toward health awareness and community sports.The race was formally flagged off by the municipal chairman, Prashanta Mitra, who waved a green flag to signal the start. Municipal councillors and several local dignitaries were present, lending official weight to an event that drew widespread public attention.



“This kind of initiative is essential to keep our bodies healthy and to encourage young people to engage more actively in sports,” Mr. Mitra said in his address, emphasizing the role of physical fitness in building a stronger society.

 

The marathon wound its way through key thoroughfares of the town, drawing cheers from residents who lined the roads to support the runners. Participants ranged from seasoned athletes to first-time runners, reflecting broad-based enthusiasm across age groups.To recognize achievement and motivate future participation, organizers arranged special prizes for the winners. By the end of the race, the strong turnout and spontaneous involvement of local residents had transformed the event into a celebration of collective well-being.

For Gangarampur, the marathon was more than a sporting event—it was a public statement, signaling that fitness, community engagement, and civic initiative can run side by side.
