A Fast Track Court in South Dinajpur has convicted Ram Das in connection with the murder of Nikhil Das, who was fatally attacked with an axe in December 2020. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday by Fast Track Court Judge Anil Kumar Kuswa, according to district Public prosecutor Ritabrata Chakraborty.
As per the case details, on December 18, 2020, Sarbani Das lodged a complaint at Tapan Police Station stating that on December 17, 2020, she and her husband Nikhil Das were returning home from Gurail Bus Stand under Tapan police station when Ram Das, a co-sharer, attacked Nikhil with an axe on his head due to an old grudge.
Nikhil Das was critically injured in the attack and was immediately admitted to Balurghat Hospital. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following the complaint, Tapan police arrested the accused Ram Das and initiated a case. The trial had been ongoing for a long time in the Fast Track Court of the South Dinajpur District Court.
After hearing the case, the court found the accused guilty. The judge is scheduled to pronounce the sentence on January 22.
