The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Tuesday afternoon organised a large-scale ‘Adhikar Yatra’ (Rights March) in the Kumarganj Assembly constituency of South Dinajpur district, raising demands over alleged harassment linked to the SIR, besides issues of infrastructure and essential supplies.
The protest began in the late afternoon with a motorbike rally involving around 150–200 party workers and supporters. The rally started from Kajlatali More under Kumargram block, passed through several localities, and concluded at Dhangarhat, where a roadside public meeting was held.
Addressing the gathering, AIMIM’s South Dinajpur district president Umed Ali Khan launched a sharp attack on both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He accused the BJP of repeatedly introducing “anti-people laws,” while alleging that the TMC was using the fear of the BJP to secure minority votes without delivering real development.
“The Trinamool Congress scares minorities in the name of the BJP, but continues to mislead people when it comes to development,” Khan said. He added that AIMIM would continue its struggle to secure the rightful entitlements of common citizens.
The party also demanded the construction of better hospitals and roads in the area and called for strict action to curb the black marketing of fertilisers, which they claimed was affecting farmers.
