Officials, artists and citizens gather in South Dinajpur to honor the freedom fighter’s legacy on his 129th birth anniversary.Beneath portraits draped in flowers and the soft strains of patriotic music, South Dinajpur on Friday paused to remember one of India’s most formidable architects of freedom—Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The District Information and Cultural Office(DICO)organized a commemorative ceremony at the Baluchhaya Government Auditorium in Balurghat to mark the 129th birth anniversary of the leader whose call for independence continues to resonate across generations.
Amidst a backdrop of patriotic themes, District Magistrate Bala Subramanian T. led the ceremony by offering floral tributes to Netaji’s portrait. The event saw the presence of ADM (Development) Subhajit Mondal, DICO Azizur Rahman, and several high-ranking officials alongside prominent cultural figures. The gathering stood in quiet reflection as garlands and petals were laid in homage to the man celebrated for his defiance, discipline and vision of a sovereign India.
Local artists enriched the observance with performances of patriotic songs, transforming the auditorium into a space of collective remembrance. Speakers recalled Bose’s ideals and unwavering resolve, urging younger generations to draw inspiration from his life and principles.
As the ceremony concluded, attendees reaffirmed a shared commitment to the values Netaji championed — courage, unity and service to the nation — ensuring that his legacy remains not only remembered, but lived.
District Magistrate Bala Subramanian T. noted that the 129th birth anniversary of Netaji is being celebrated with utmost sincerity across all blocks and municipalities of South Dinajpur, including a special tribute in Balurghat to honor his enduring legacy.
