Balurghat police have scored a major breakthrough in the investigation of a high-value burglary that took place in a village home shortly after a local festival last November, recovering cash, jewelry and household items worth Several Lakhs of Rupees Have Been Recovered and arresting two accused.

The burglary occurred on November 11, 2025, a day after the Bolla Kali Puja celebrations, at the residence of Arup Kundu in Raghunathpur village under Balurghat block. Following a formal complaint, officers launched an investigation that relied heavily on the analysis of closed-circuit television footage from the surrounding area.

That scrutiny led police to arrest Amit Mondal, a resident of Indranarayanpur in Gangarampur block. After securing court permission, investigators placed him in police custody for questioning. During interrogation, Amit Mondal allegedly disclosed the involvement of another suspect, Alok Mondal, from the Bijayshree area of Balurghat block.

Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at Alok Mondal’s residence in Bijayshree, where they recovered a large cache of stolen property, including utensils, gold and silver ornaments, and ₹32,500 in cash. Officials said the estimated value of the recovered items Worth Several Lakhs of Rupees.

Police also seized tools believed to have been used in the crime, including a gas cutter, hammers and other burglary implements.

At a press conference held on Thursday at Balurghat police station, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Bikram Prasad, praised the coordinated effort of the investigating team. “The recovery of stolen property and tools marks a significant success in this case,” he said, adding that further leads are being pursued and more information may emerge as the investigation continues.

Authorities indicated that the case remains open and that additional arrests have not been ruled out.
