Balurghat on Thursday observed the anniversary of the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya with a daylong series of religious and cultural events that blended devotion with youthful creativity, underscoring the temple’s growing resonance far beyond its sacred geography.
At the heart of the celebrations was a drawing competition for children, where young participants expressed scenes from the Ramayana and symbols of faith through crayon and paint. The event was organized under the initiative of Balurghat’s Member of Parliament, Dr.Sukanta Majumdar, who sought to commemorate the occasion by engaging the next generation in artistic and spiritual reflection.
Alongside the art competition, a “Ram Sajo” (Lord Ram costume) contest was held, drawing families and onlookers as children dressed in traditional attire evoked images of the revered deity. The atmosphere throughout the day remained one of reverence and festivity, marked by devotional music and community participation.
The observance culminated in the evening at the banks of the Atreyee River, where arrangements were made for a mass aarti involving nearly 3,000 lamps. As dusk settled, rows of flickering flames illuminated the riverfront, transforming the ghat into a tableau of collective prayer and ritual solemnity.
Organizers described the events as an effort to unite faith, culture, and community, while participants said the celebration offered a moment of spiritual connection and shared identity. In a town far removed from Ayodhya, the anniversary served as a reminder of how religious milestones continue to shape public life, carried forward through art, ritual, and communal gathering.
